São Paulo, Brazil, August 27, 2025 – In response to Brazil’s updated solar safety regulations, Sungrow, a globally recognized provider of PV inverters and energy storage systems, introduced its new rapid shutdown solution for the Brazilian market during Intersolar South America 2025.
The solution includes the SR20D-M rapid shutdown device, the SR200T-BX controller box, and Sungrow inverters. It is designed to reduce module voltage to a safe threshold within 30 seconds, enhancing protection for both people and property.
Meeting New Brazilian Safety Standards
Brazil’s recently implemented standard ABNT NBR 17193:2025-02-04 requires rooftop PV systems to lower DC voltage below 35V within half a minute during grid failures, fires, or other emergencies. This follows earlier guidelines from the Brazilian fire authority, NORMA TÉCNICA 44/2023, which highlighted the need for improved emergency response capabilities.
Traditional PV systems often leave high voltage active on rooftops for minutes after shutdown, posing risks to firefighters and technicians. Sungrow’s system actively brings DC voltage to a safe level within 30 seconds, enabling quicker emergency intervention.
Reliability Through Low-Temperature Bypass Technology
A key challenge with rapid shutdown devices is heat buildup during bypass operations, where temperatures can reach 180–190°C, accelerating wear and reducing lifespan. Sungrow’s patented Fault Heat Control (FHC) technology limits temperatures to under 120°C, improving long-term durability.
Built to withstand Brazil’s diverse environmental conditions, the components offer C5 anti-corrosion protection and IP68/IP65 ratings, supporting reliable operation for up to 25 years.
Scalable and Easy to Install
Sungrow’s solution supports long-distance communication (up to 450m), reducing the need for extra cabling and devices. The SR20D-M supports currents up to 20A, while the SR200T-BX can manage 200A and up to 30 DC strings. Installation is simplified with a snap-fit design that allows the SR20D-M to be installed in 35 seconds—45% faster than conventional alternatives.
The integrated system ensures seamless operation with Sungrow inverters, offering a unified approach to monitoring and control.
According to Ada Li, Vice President of Sungrow Americas, the solution enhances safety and simplicity across the lifecycle of solar installations, reinforcing Sungrow’s role as a trusted renewable energy partner.
