HiTHIUM 1175Ah Battery Powers Landmark 4GWh Saudi Energy Storage Project

HiTHIUM 1175Ah Battery Powers

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – HiTHIUM, a leading global manufacturer of stationary energy storage products, has secured a major contract to deploy two massive battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in northern Saudi Arabia's Tabuk and Hail provinces. The projects, developed in partnership with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and Saudi utility giant Alfanar Projects, will have a total capacity of 1GW/4GWh, ranking among the largest energy storage deployments in the Middle East

The landmark project will utilize HiTHIUM's industry-leading ∞Cell 1175Ah long-duration energy storage battery cells – the world's first mass-produced thousand-amp-hour-scale storage solution – integrated into their ∞Power 6.25MWh Desert Eagle series containerized systems. These specialized solutions are engineered specifically for Saudi Arabia's challenging environmental conditions, featuring innovative adaptations for extreme heat and frequent sandstorms.

Engineered for Extreme Environments

The Desert Eagle series incorporates custom technical upgrades to address Saudi Arabia's harsh operating environment, achieving three key performance enhancements:

  • Heat Resilience: Multi-layer insulation design reduces internal container temperatures by 8-10°C, ensuring reliable operation across extreme temperature ranges from -30°C to 60°C.

  • Sandstorm Protection: Fully sealed critical components combined with intelligent dust alert systems significantly reduce maintenance requirements.

  • Extended Durability: Key components are rated for over 40,000 hours of continuous operation, guaranteeing long-term reliability.

Strategic Importance for Saudi's Energy Vision

The massive energy storage project will provide essential grid services including load shifting, black start capability, frequency regulation, and voltage support. These capabilities are crucial for enabling higher renewable energy penetration and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, directly supporting Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 objectives for energy transition and diversification.

As the technology provider and service provider, HiTHIUM will be responsible for system design, equipment supply, installation supervision, and long-term maintenance. Alfanar Projects, as the local project leader, will oversee construction activities, with commissioning targeted for 20262.

Dr. Keramat Fakhari, President of Middle East and Africa at HiTHIUM, emphasized the project's significance: "This 4GWh benchmark project represents an important milestone for Saudi Arabia's energy transition and demonstrates HiTHIUM's leading competitive advantage in scenario-customized solutions. By integrating HiTHIUM's long-duration energy storage technology with Saudi Electricity Company's forward-looking layout and Alfanar Group's regional experience, we are providing stable and reliable power support for the local grid while redefining the innovative boundaries of long-duration energy storage applications in extreme environments".

The project marks the world's first GWh-scale application of mass-produced thousand-amp-hour long-duration energy storage batteries and system solutions, establishing a practical benchmark for the large-scale commercialization of long-duration energy storage technology.

HiTHIUM, founded in 2019, has rapidly grown to become a top global BESS manufacturer, having delivered over 20GWh of battery capacity to date. The company operates four R&D centers and multiple smart production facilities, with its innovation achievements including breakthrough safety improvements and lifecycle extensions for lithium-ion batteries3.

This development follows HiTHIUM's recent recognition as one of the top five global BESS manufacturers for 2023, confirming the company's strategy of focusing exclusively on stationary energy storage.
