CALB (03931.HK) has successfully launched its 1.2MWh high-safety marine battery system for Saudi Aramco's hybrid offshore support vessel (OSV), Karan8. This follows CALB becoming China's first battery maker to achieve DNV certification and now the first to deliver an ABS-certified marine battery system.
Leveraging extensive maritime battery expertise, CALB completed the entire project cycle—from design to Factory Acceptance Testing—within 60 days.
The Karan8 OSV, scheduled for deployment in Q2 2025 in the Persian Gulf, will provide Aramco with low-carbon port services across major Eastern Saudi ports (including Jubail and Dammam) and offshore oil fields. Its hybrid propulsion system, powered by CALB's batteries, is projected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 30%.
CALB recently showcased its marine solutions at Seatrade Maritime Middle East 2025 in Dubai. Key highlights included:
Scalable Systems: Modular 230Ah/320Ah battery packs covering 100kWh to 20MWh applications.
Extreme Environment Tech: Wide-temperature cells with intelligent thermal management and C5H/IP68 protection for high-heat, high-salt conditions.
Middle East Debut of "Zh¨©yu¨£n" Power Container: >2.1MWh capacity, 12-year lifespan, featuring desert-optimized thermal control and 5x faster swap capability vs. charging.
CALB anticipates mass production of new marine-specific battery systems in Q3 2025, accelerating its global leadership in maritime electrification.
