Just months after landing a 12.5GWh grid-scale storage contract in Saudi Arabia—then the world’s largest—BYD Energy Storage has struck again on the Middle East’s energy frontier. The Chinese battery and EV giant has signed an 11.275GWh cooperation agreement with Masdar, the Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy powerhouse, to supply storage solutions for the landmark RTC (Round The Clock) project.

The RTC project, located in Abu Dhabi, is the world’s first GW‑scale round‑the‑clock renewable energy initiative. With a 300%‑plus increase in single‑cell capacity and a leap in energy density, the battery management system complexity is reduced by 70‑80%, boosting reliability exponentially. This ensures safe, long‑life operation and maximises lifecycle value, guaranteeing 7×24 hours of stable station output and a solid foundation for continuous renewable energy delivery.

Simplicity by Design, Optimised Station Architecture
BYD Haohan stands out with super‑integrated, ultra‑high‑capacity design. Its smallest unit reaches 14.5MWh—the highest in the industry—while achieving 10MWh within an equivalent 20‑foot container footprint. Fewer containers and smaller land occupancy simplify management, dramatically improve integration, and create a cleaner, safer, more modern energy storage station layout.

All‑Round Protection for Extreme Environments
The Haohan system operates reliably across a wide temperature range from ‑30°C to 55°C. For the Middle East’s harsh desert conditions—intense heat, extreme aridity, and heavy sandstorms—it comes with IP66, the industry’s highest full‑machine protection rating. Adding to the hardware, BYD Energy Storage provides its self‑developed GC Master EMS (Energy Management System) for the project.
