REPT BATTERO has redefined energy storage safety by successfully completing an extreme large-scale fire test on its 5MWh Powtrix® battery compartment. Witnessed by CSA, US fire experts, and international clients, the test subjected a fully charged unit to 14 hours of continuous combustion while preventing thermal runaway propagation to adjacent equipment.
Extreme Testing Parameters:
• Full 5MWh energy discharge
• 14-hour sustained combustion
• Simultaneous exposure to 5 fire types (Class A-E)
• Adjacent cabinets positioned at critical 10cm proximity
• Active fire suppression systems deliberately disabled
Critical Safety Validations:
Proximity Defense: Cabinets spaced just 10cm apart showed adjacent cell temperatures remained below 57°C despite the trigger cabin reaching 1380°C.
Passive Safety: With fire extinguishers removed and water systems disabled, the compartment's inherent design contained the fire.
Real-World Simulation: Back-to-back fully charged cabinets replicated worst-case deployment scenarios with compromised cooling.
Multi-Hazard Validation: Combined bottom ignition, internal heating, and 2000°C external flames simulated complex failure modes.
The test exceeded requirements of CSA/ANSI C800:25, NFPA 855, and UL 9540A. Post-test inspection confirmed structural integrity of adjacent units and normal BMS functionality. This industry-first demonstration establishes new safety benchmarks for grid-scale energy storage systems under catastrophic conditions.
