On September 4, the “Global Advanced Battery Forward-looking Technology Special Session” – the sole technical forum of the 2026 World Power Battery Conference – was held in Yibin, Sichuan. The session brought together leading industry experts to discuss the future trajectory of advanced battery technologies. Dr. He Wei, Vice President of EVE Energy and President of the Passenger Vehicle Battery Product Line, was invited to deliver a keynote speech titled “Large-Cylindrical Cell Technology Innovation and All-Scenario Application Progress,” systematically presenting the unique value and broad prospects of large-cylindrical cells.
“Technological progress and scenario demands are always in dynamic alignment, and multiple routes will continue to coexist,” Dr. He Wei stated at the outset. He noted that beyond the evolution of material systems, the deep integration of cell form factors with vehicle engineering is equally reshaping the market landscape. The vitality of large-cylindrical cells lies precisely in the “One for All” concept – a single cell covering infinite scenarios. This philosophy is grounded in three intrinsic advantages: standardization, enabling one cell to fit diverse models from A‑segment to full‑size vehicles while providing a stable foundation for extreme manufacturing; zero expansion, ensuring consistent cell dimensions throughout the entire lifecycle and delivering long‑term reliability for vehicles; and high strength, with steel casing six times stronger than aluminum, combined with a gas‑electric separation design, creating a robust safety carrier for high‑energy‑density materials.
Building on these three intrinsic advantages, large‑cylindrical cells continue to evolve in high energy, high power, fast charging, and long cycle life, with tangible progress in scaled applications: 260Wh/kg products have been installed in over 50,000 vehicles; 280Wh/kg products in nearly 70,000 vehicles; 300Wh/kg products reached mass production in vehicles this year; and 320Wh/kg products have taken the lead in low‑altitude economy applications. “With the same structure and the same production line, simply switching the chemical system enables flexible coverage from 80 kWh to 114 kWh,” Dr. He explained, using mass‑production practice to illustrate the platform value of “in‑situ upgrades.” From entry‑level to high‑spec models, automakers can achieve performance iteration without altering vehicle structures, significantly reducing validation cycles and R&D costs. Underpinning this capability is EVE Energy’s systematic “3+2” chemical system layout and a manufacturing foundation with a daily output of 5 million cells. Currently, large‑cylindrical cells have been deployed in multiple models including BMW and Hongqi, with vehicle integration steadily advancing.
Beyond Vehicles, Large‑Cylindrical Cells Empower Full‑Scenario Smart Living
The potential of large‑cylindrical cells extends far beyond passenger vehicles. Leveraging its expertise in high‑power cylindrical cells, EVE Energy has expanded large‑cylindrical applications to HEV, 12V/48V systems, and continues to push toward 100C ultra‑high rates – this year, top‑tier racing events featuring EVE batteries have achieved outstanding results. “We once thought 100C was impossible, but now we have made it a reality,” said Dr. He. From two‑wheel mobility to four‑wheel driving, from ground transportation to low‑altitude economy, from racing tracks to full‑scenario travel, large‑cylindrical cells are breaking scenario boundaries with the “one cell, infinite applications” vision, powering a smarter future. With over two decades of dedication to cylindrical cells, EVE Energy is transforming its technological heritage into a scalable, deliverable, and expandable full‑scenario capability, driving the industry toward a broader future through extreme innovation.
