
On July 15, Envision Energy officially commenced operations at its Yichang Energy Storage Super Factory in Hubei province, marking the start of mass production for its 790Ah large-format prismatic battery cells. The first batch of cells was simultaneously dispatched to Germany, achieving a milestone of “production-to-delivery, delivery-to-export” in a single motion. Positioned as the world’s first 100GWh-class full-industry-chain energy storage manufacturing base, the facility’s Phase I, with 40GWh of cell capacity, was completed in under one year from groundbreaking in October 2025. Phase II construction, which includes 60GWh of cell capacity and another 60GWh of system-level integration capacity, broke ground this past April. Upon full ramp-up, the site is expected to deliver premium end-to-end supply capabilities spanning individual cells to fully integrated storage systems.
The 790Ah cell now in production is the largest prismatic roll-to-roll energy storage cell currently available globally, representing Envision Energy’s flagship achievement in redefining cell specifications through a system-level design philosophy. The cell delivers a volumetric energy density exceeding 440Wh/L, a cycle life of more than 12,000 cycles, and a DC round-trip efficiency (RTE) of 96%. Leveraging proprietary materials innovation and AI-driven quality control across all manufacturing stages, the 790Ah cell has cleared multiple high-risk safety tests including nail penetration, overcharge, and thermal runaway scenarios. It has obtained certifications from leading global authorities, meeting market access requirements for over 20 countries and regions worldwide.
Notably, the large-capacity battery segment is currently seeing a divergence of technical pathways. While Envision Energy has pushed roll-to-roll manufacturing to the 790Ah limit, Hikmicro (HaiChu Energy Storage) has introduced a 1175Ah stacked-cell design tailored specifically for 4-to-8-hour long-duration energy storage applications. This differentiated competition between roll-to-roll and stacking process routes is collectively driving the industry toward even larger cell capacities and higher energy densities.
With the mass-produced 790Ah cell as a cornerstone, Envision’s system-level solutions are accelerating deployment. In April, the company unveiled the world’s first 12.5MWh AI-integrated energy storage system, which leverages the new cell as its core hardware while embedding physical AI capabilities throughout operations. The solution is projected to boost the internal rate of return (IRR) for storage sites by 4% to 8% over their full lifecycle.
Against the backdrop of deepening global energy transition and surging demand from emerging sectors such as AI data centers, the new energy storage industry is entering a phase of structural growth. China’s State Council recently issued the “15th Five-Year Plan Carbon Peaking Action Plan,” which sets a target of 300GW of installed new energy storage capacity by 2030. Within this favorable policy context, Envision Energy has secured major orders across Europe, Africa, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region so far this year, covering pure cell supply, system integration, and integrated wind-solar-storage-hydrogen projects.
To date, Envision Energy has established 14 battery mega-factories across China, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Spain, with cumulative ESS cell deliveries exceeding 100GWh and participation in more than 400 storage projects worldwide. The ramp-up of 790Ah cell production at the Yichang facility marks a critical node in the company’s global capacity deployment—and signals that China’s new energy sector is rapidly evolving toward a new phase of “systematic capability export” on the world stage.
