At the IAA Mobility 2025 Open Day, CATL broke cover with Shenxing Pro, touted as a pioneering lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery solution engineered for the European electric vehicle market. The company claims it is the first LFP battery capable of sustaining high-voltage output and maintaining power without fire or smoke following a thermal runaway event. Designed to set new standards in safety, longevity, driving range, and charging speed, Shenxing Pro is positioned as a key enabler for the region's accelerating shift to electromobility.
The European EV sector is expanding rapidly. Data from SNE and MarkLines indicates the region's EV penetration rate climbed from 23% to 26% in H1 2025, with forecasts suggesting it could reach 29% by year-end. The International Energy Agency (IEA) anticipates EV sales will hit 4 million units this year, up from 3.2 million in 2024. Despite this growth, consumer hesitations persist. A McKinsey 2025 survey highlights major barriers including high purchase costs, anxiety over battery lifespan and range, insufficient charging infrastructure, and safety concerns—all of which the Shenxing Pro is designed to mitigate.
The battery leverages CATL's proprietary NP 3.0 Technology, an evolution of its No Propagation safety architecture. This technology is stated to allow the battery to supply high voltage for over an hour after a thermal incident, maintain vehicle speed to enable drivers to reach safety, and prevent fire and smoke. This is presented as particularly critical for future autonomous driving systems, where continuous power delivery is essential for safety systems.
CATL introduced two variants:
The Shenxing Pro Super Long Life & Long Range Battery is claimed to be the first LFP cell to offer a 758 km (WLTP) range and a lifespan of 12 years or 1 million kilometers, with only 9% degradation after 200,000 km, making it suited for Europe’s leasing markets.
The Shenxing Pro Super-Fast Charging Battery is promoted as capable of adding 478 km (WLTP) of range in 10 minutes. It also purportedly delivers high performance in extreme cold, achieving 410 km of range with a 20-minute charge at -20°C, and is backed by a 10-year/240,000 km warranty.
Further innovations include CATL's Wave cells with a raised shoulder design, said to allow for omnidirectional cooling and mounting, increase pack stiffness by 25%, and double durability. The design reportedly achieves a 76% pack volume efficiency, overcoming traditional Cell-to-Body (CTB) limitations.
Dr. Zhu Lingbo, CTO of CATL's International Business Unit, stated that Shenxing Pro combines safety with performance to offer a "carefree experience" for European drivers, calling it the "ultimate solution" for the region's e-mobility needs.
The launch underscores CATL's strategy to deepen its European presence, evolving from exporting batteries to establishing local operations. The company highlights over €11 billion invested in its European ventures, the creation of thousands of jobs, and collaborations with over 200 automakers and 1,000 European suppliers.
Tan Libin, CATL's CCO and SVP, reinforced the company's commitment to becoming a reliable partner "of Europe," aiming to build a localized ecosystem encompassing material production, manufacturing, and recycling to accelerate the continent's energy transition. With Shenxing Pro, CATL aims to leverage its global experience to foster a safer, more reliable, and sustainable electric future in Europe.
