Ningbo CBL (a subsidiary of CATL's Brunp), PT ANTAM, and Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) have officially commenced construction on the Indonesia Battery Integration Project at Karawang New Industry City (KNIC), West Java.
This landmark project, representing a planned investment of nearly US$6 billion across 2,000+ hectares, encompasses the entire battery value chain:
Nickel Mining & Processing, Battery Materials & Recycling: Located at the FHT Industrial Park, East Halmahera, North Maluku. This component establishes Indonesia's first renewable energy circular system, featuring cutting-edge tech for ultra-low energy consumption and over 95% metal recovery. At full capacity, it will produce 142,000 tons of nickel and 30,000 tons of cathode materials annually, processing ~20,000 tons of recycled batteries.
Battery Manufacturing: Located at KNIC and Artha Industrial Hill (AIH), Karawang, West Java. The Karawang plant's first phase will deliver 6.9 GWh annual capacity, leveraging CATL's advanced Lighthouse Factory and Extreme Manufacturing expertise to produce high-quality cells and modules for global e-mobility and energy storage.
Significant Impacts:
Jobs: Expected to create 8,000 direct jobs and 35,000 indirect opportunities at full operation.
Sustainability: A major accelerator for Indonesia's 2060 carbon neutrality goals.
Scale: The largest initiative of its kind in Southeast Asia.
Model: Sets a new international benchmark for green, circular industrial development through full vertical integration.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, attending the ceremony, highlighted the project as clear proof of Indonesia's commitment to sustainable energy and enthusiasm for global green battery ecosystem partnerships. This milestone significantly advances the project, enhancing CATL's global presence, securing raw materials, and promoting worldwide battery circularity.
