CATL Powers Australia's Largest NEM Battery Storage Project Beyond 3GWh

Australia's Largest NEM Battery Storage Project

The second phase of the Supernode energy storage project in Australia, developed by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, has officially entered commercial operation, while Phase 3 successfully closed AUD 469 million in financing. With Phases 1 and 2 delivering a combined 520 MW / 1,858 MWh, the project's total capacity will surpass 3 GWh upon Phase 3 completion—making it the largest operational battery energy storage system (BESS) in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).

Chinese battery manufacturer CATL serves as the sole energy storage system provider across all phases. The company’s technical architecture and long-term servicing framework played a critical role in de-risking the asset to secure bankable infrastructure financing:

  • Exclusive Supply & Future LDES: Phase 3 exclusively features CATL’s flagship Tener energy storage system. Moving forward, both parties plan to jointly develop 8-hour long-duration energy storage (LDES) solutions.

  • Unified Technical Platform: To ensure long-term safety and high operational efficiency, CATL established a standardized technical platform on-site, eliminating hardware and software compatibility risks across different construction phases.

  • Full Lifecycle LTSA Support: A comprehensive Long-Term Service Agreement integrates condition monitoring, performance tracking, and preventive maintenance across the asset's operational life.

Through scalable manufacturing, proven product reliability, and lifecycle service agreements, CATL continues to solidify its footprint in delivering bankable, utility-scale energy storage assets globally.
